Wednesday's Pick!

Forgive Me by Amanda Eyre Ward is a compelling read that grabs you and doesn't let you go. Nadine Morgan, the main character, is a journalist who escapes her own life by pursuing atrocities in foreign lands. Early in her career she spent time in South Africa covering the horrific crimes against humanity and during this time, she met the love of her life. The situation ended in tragedy while she left her lover in a time of need to cover a story. Nadine is consumed by guilt and has not opened her heart or returned to South Africa since this incident. She is badly injured while covering a story in Mexico and is sent home to recover in Cape Cod. While in Cape Cod she hears the story of Jason Irving, an American student beaten to death by angry youths during the apartheid era. Jason's parents are from Cape Cod and are traveling to South Africa to be present when the Truth and Reconciliation Commission is taking testimony from victims of Apartheid violence. Jason was killed by a young girl who has a connection to Nadine. Jason's mother is determined to argue against granting amnesty for the young girl. Nadine travels back to South Africa to cover the story and while there she faces her own personal ghosts along the way. This is a moving novel about love, memory, and motherhood. The novel leaves you pondering your own ability to forgive
