Monday's Pick!!

Author of the widely acclaimed debut novel The Piano Tuner, Daniel Philippe Mason's second book,A Far Country, is a compelling account of life in the impoverished villages and cities of the Third World. It is the story of fourteen-year-old Isabel, who lives in a small village on the edge of a sugarcane plantation in an unnamed Third World country. When drought and war threaten the land, her desperate parents decide to send her to the city to live with her cousin and her adored older brother Isaias who had gone to the city earlier to seek his fortune. However Isaias has vanished and Isabel searches for him in a city which is filled with danger and violence. Isabel’s quest to find her brother and reunite her family is an empathetic and moving portrayal of a young girl's dignity and courage in the face of great poverty and hardship
