Wednesday's Post!

The Road to Samarcand is a rollicking, old school adventure by Patrick O'Brian, full of perilous escapes and tongue in cheek humour. Derrick, a recently orphaned teenager, is reluctant to leave his uncle's schooner in the South China Sea to begin formal schooling in Britain. His cousin, a scholarly professor offers to take him there by way of Samarcand in Central Asia. The Professor intends to explore a number of archaeological sites. Along the way they encounter Chinese warlords, Russian spies, both friendly and unfriendly Mongol warriors, militant Tibetan monks and a lot of bad weather. This is how I imagine Saturday afternoon movie sequels must have been!
