OBOB Season Wraps Up
Well, last Friday night we had our final event based on our One Book One Burlington pick Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures by Vincent Lam. The event was an all-night short story writing contest at which twelve individuals typed and wrote until dawn. If Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures has whetted your appetite for more short stories, you may be interested in a few other items here at the Burlington Public Library.
Canadian Alice Munro won the Man Booker International Prize for her contribution to fiction internationally. Her latest short story collection was just released and is entitled Too Much Happiness
Even Oprah Winfrey is getting on board with short stories. Her most recent book club pick was Say You're One of Them by Uwem Akpan. This book consists of 5 short stories all narrated by a different child from a different African country. It sounds amazing, but the holds list is rising already. Add your name to the list today!
If those sound a bit heavy, how about Jeffrey Archer's
A Twist in the Tale? These stories are suspenseful and lots of fun!
And be sure to check in with us next year for our 2010 One Book One Burlington program. Happy Reading!

I heard that everyone who participated in the all-nighter short story writing contest at the library had a great time! It was the first time the Burlington Library conducted an overnight program for adults, so it was a learning experience for all. The Children's department had an overnight celebration when the final 'Harry Potter' book was published last year, and apparently the kids had lots of fun with it! What great memories for them!
