Monday's Pick!

The Hearts of Horses by Molly Gloss is a gentle story of horses and their keepers that spans the adult life of horse whisperer, Martha Lessen. At age twenty, she arrives at a small western American community during the First World War. She easily attains work usually reserved for men since so many have enlisted. Stories of prejudice and hard times, coupled with kindness and strength filter through her circle ride of ranches, as Martha tames horses made wild by accident or mistreatment.
This is a pleasant yet meaningful novel of a cowboy era that was gone in the space of her lifetime.
