Non-Fiction Pick of the Week:I'll Sleep when I'm Dead
I’ll sleep when I’m dead: the dirty life and times of Warren Zevon by Crystal Zevon 2007
Sex, drugs, and rock and roll, Zevon had it all. Warren Zevon asked his ex-wife (and lifelong friend) Crystal to write the book, to compile the stories about him from all sides of the fence: friends, friends he’d fallen out with, bandmates, family, lovers. The stories are all here.
Over the years, Zevon had collaborated with a number of famous rockers: Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, the Everly Brothers, the Turtles, Graham Nash, Tom Petty, many more. He co-wrote with authors Tom McGuane, Hunter S. Thompson and Carl Hiaasen. The Zevon-Hiaasen song "Basket Case" is both the title of a Hiaasen novel and a song on Zevon’s final album, "The Wind". Hiaasen also wrote the book’s foreword.
The book is harsh, startling, and unsettling, but it’s what Warren wanted. Warren Zevon, warts and all. And listen to the last album too.

Listen to ALL the albums. You won't be dispapointed. This man is an all-too-often overlooked genius.
One of my colleagues wrote this review, and I really don't know anything about Zevon or his music... I'll certainly have to find out more... thanks for your comment!
