Saturday's Pick: The Murder Stone

The Murder Stone by Louise Penny

Once again Louise Penny delivers the combination that has made this series such a success-- a charming detective, a cosy setting among the hills and valleys of Quebec's Eastern Townships and a cast of interesting and often eccentric characters. Inspector Armand Gamache and his wife are celebrating an idyllic anniversary at a romantic lodge in the Quebec wilderness, when their plans are interrupted by the bizarre death of one of their fellow guests. Is it murder or accident? And could it involve an old friend from the village of Three Pines, who has unexpectedly turned up at the lodge for the family reunion of a deeply divided family? Gamache solves the case with his characteristic blend of gentle inquiry and sympathetic understanding of human nature.
