Tuesday's Pick: Pieces of My Heart
Pieces of my Heart by Robert Wagner is an engaging memoir by the famed actor and producer who has starred in such movies as "A Kiss Before Dying" and "The Pink Panther" and is best known for the television series "Hart to Hart" with Stefanie Powers.
As a child he was fascinated with movies, and determined to become a part of that world he began working as a golf caddy at the age of 12 in 1942 where he was able to make contact with those who could help him. He became a contract player at Fox in 1948 and by the early 1950's his six decade career in theater, television and movies had begun. Along the way he realized that family and friends were just as important as show business, and he writes with great fondness and humor about his close friendships with David Niven, Frank Sinatra, and many others. He had a four year affair with Barbara Stanwyck when he was in his early twenties (she was twice his age) and he was married four times (twice to Natalie Wood). His love for Natalie Wood is apparent throughout the book, and he recalls for the first time in his own words the events leading up to her disappearance from their boat and the subsequent search for her body. Today he is married to Jill St. John and for the most part lives in Aspen, Colorado.
I really enjoyed this book and after finishing it I was left with the feeling that Robert Wagner is truly a likeable, caring, humble gentleman.
