Wednesday's Pick!

Debbie Lee Wesselmann's Captivity is an engrossing novel about a primatologist's crusade to rescure and nurture abused chimpanzees. Dr. Dana Armstrong has devoted her life to the South Carolina Primate Project (SCPP) sanctuary. Unfortunately all that Dana has worked for is endangered when an unknown intruder gains access to the sanctuary and releases numerous chimpanzees. She must not only determine who is responsible for the vandalism but also must deal with her traumatic memories of the past, when as a child she was raised with a chimp named Annie as part of an experiment. Dana now faces opposition from the community, pressure from the university and matters are further complicated when her brother shows up on her doorstep and she develops feelings for a handsome journalist.
The author has created in this novel well drawn characters, an exciting plot, and fascinating parallels between the worlds of humans and animals.
