Thursday's Pick!
Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson is the uplifting story of one man's humanitarian campaign to change lives. In 1993, after a failed attempt to climb Pakistan's treacherous K2, Greg Mortenson becomes separated from his group. He stumbles into the remote village of Korphe, lost and exhausted. The village welcomes him and nurses him back to health until he is reunited with his guide and safely able to continue his journey. Mortenson promises to return one day to build a school to repay their kindness.
Raised by missionary parents in Tanzania, Greg was not a wealthy man. Faced with the daunting task of raising money and awareness, combined with the turmoil of confronting hostility from both Americans and Islamists, Mortenson built more than 50 schools for boys and girls in remote, impoverished areas across Pakistan and Afghanistan.
I found this to be a great adventure story and an inspiring testimony to the human spirit. It is amazing what can be accomplished when you set your mind to it.
Sorry I'm a day late with this, I'm still off catching up on my reading. Things should get back to normal next week!
