Monday's Pick!

The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett

What would happen if the Queen developed into a voracious reader and as such was exposed to subversive "ideas"? Alan Bennett's humorous little novella, replete with corgies and Prime Ministers is neverthless a surprisingly thoughtful read. It gently satirizes the notion of "duty." The sparkling dialogue and sterling prose moves the story along swiftly and effortlessly to its surprising ending and leaves you wishing there was a BBC television series about the same.
