Monday's Pick!
Julie & Julia is the true story of secretary Julie Powell from Queens, NY who attempts to master each recipe in Julia Child's 1961 classic cookbook, Mastering the art of French cooking in order to spice up her mundane life. She calls it the Julie/Julia project, and challenges herself to make all 524 recipes in one year. In the process, she discovers that: a) French recipes from the 1960s used butter in almost everything, b) beef marrow is not easy to find, even in New York butcher shops, c) making custard is a hit-or-miss process, and d) the average apartment kitchen is far too small for this type of challenge! Julie also discusses how the rest of the world discovered this project through the blog she maintained throughout. This is an entertaining book for people who have tried to shake up their lives with do-it-yourself challenges that don’t always go smoothly!
