My Pick of the Week!
Suite Francaise is a wonderful novel written in its time during the German occupation of France during WWII. The novel is written in two parts: “Storm in June” chronicles the connecting lives of a number of Parisians fleeing to the south of France while German troops marched into Paris; and “Dolce” details how the stories of the characters, both German and French, unfold under the Nazi occupation of a small farming town in rural France. Although each has its own story to tell, the parts are woven together through their rich characters. This book provides a brilliant insight into how the social classes of France were, at times, as harsh with each other as their occupiers. Those who enjoy reading family sagas and historical fiction (especially WWII) will find this novel immensely satisfying.
