Non-Fiction Pick of the Week: Thrifty

Thrifty by Marjorie Harris 2010
Celebrated Toronto garden columnist Marjorie Harris, turns her writing chops to this book about living the richly frugal life. She cautions the reader to not confuse being thrifty with being cheap. Being cheap means not understanding the real value of money, being frugal means knowing the real value of stuff. Chapters on frugality cover thrify cooking, becoming a "frugal fashionista", maintaining your home on a budget, thrifty travel and of course, thrifty gardening. Harris draws on her well known and equally thrifty friends, so don't be surprised to read tips about frugal living by the likes of author Margaret Atwood and chef Jamie Kennedy.
