Fiction Pick of the Week: Generation A

Generation A by Douglas Coupland 2009

Set in the near future, where honey bees are thought to be extinct, Coupland tells the story of five individuals from different parts of the world who are drawn together by an unprecedented event: a bee sting.

The tale is presented alternately through the eyes of each of the characters. Although each person's story starts very differently, they converge as the book progresses.

Reminiscent of his older novel, Generation X, I found this to be my favourite of Coupland's books so far, with a polished writing style and engaging storyline that kept me guessing to the end. Coupland delves into the art of storytelling in an age of internet searching, blogging and twittering. I would recommend this to fans of any of his previous work, or for any science fiction reader who hasn’t read this great Canadian writer.

It is rather interesting for me to read the article. Thanks for it. I like such themes and everything connected to this matter. I would like to read a bit more soon.

I have enjoyed a number of Coupland's other novels and am looking forward to this one - especially based on this review!
