Non-Fiction Pick of the Week: The CORE Balance Diet

The CORE Balance Diet: 4 weeks to boost your Metabolism and lose weight for good
by
Marcelle Pick 2009

The strength of this book is the author’s focus on six common biochemical imbalances– digestive, hormonal, adrenal, neurotransmitter, inflammation and detoxification. If after reading some of the early sections, you feel, for example, that you have an inflammatory imbalance, then foods are suggested to take and avoid along with a balanced menu plan and recipes. The 14 day menus on the plan did not seem very realistic for anyone working full-time or caught in the current recession. Yet, many sections were very interesting such as: the balance of vitamins, environmental toxins, and “your issues are in your tissues”. This is not a recipe book, although recipes abound. The author’s philosophy that frames the chapters is that self-knowledge of emotional wellness and awareness of your physical self can lead to weight loss and be a powerful influence in your lifestyle.
