I was saddened to read in the paper yesterday that Pulitzer Prize-winning author Frank McCourt passed away on Sunday. McCourt captured life in impoverished Limerick in his best-selling memoir Angela's Ashes which was followed by 'Tis and Teacher Man. It's been many years since I read Angela's Ashes, but some of the scenes were so vividly described that I remember them to this day. If you haven't read anything by Frank McCourt, we have a few in! Thank you for mentioning Frank McCourt on your blog. Many of us have read his work, and I agree that his descriptions are vivid and memorable. He had a style of writing that was haunting, and his literary contributions, which were too few, will continue to be read for decades. Such was his power with words.
ReplyDeleteOn a long road trip I had the pleasure to hear him read his own stories on a Book on Tape. It enhanced what were already wonderful stories.
