Fiction Pick of the Week: Bone by Bone

Bone by Bone by Carol O’Connell 2008

I read a great thriller/murder mystery novel this weekend entitled Bone by Bone by Carol O’Connell. In the town of Coventry (Northern California) two teenage brothers go into the woods one day and only one returns home. Twenty years later the older brother, Oren returns home and becomes involved in solving the mysterious death of his brother.

Bones have been showing up on the porch of his father’s home in the last couple of months and the housekeeper contacted Oren to return home. Oren is a retired investigator for the Army CID unit and he uses these skills to find clues that will help him find his brother’s killer.

The town has many people with secrets: the housekeeper with a fugitive past; a reclusive ex-cop from L.A.; an alcoholic and insane birdwatcher and Oren himself who is silent about his alibi for that night. There are lots of twists and turns in the plot and you won’t guess who the killer is.
