Tuesday's Pick: An Expert in Murder
An Expert in Murder by Nicola Upson
This debut mystery blends fact and fiction, taking as its central character real-life Golden Age mystery writer Josephine Tey, as her renowned play Richard of Bordeaux is being produced in London in the 1930s. A young girl is murdered, and suspicion falls upon the various members of London's theatrical community. Josephine, and her friend Cambridge-educated Scotland Yard Inspector Archie Penrose are forced to investigate their friends and colleagues, and find that the roots of the crime lie in the trenches of World War I. A sure winner for fans of Josephine Tey or mysteries set in the aftermath of the First World War, such as those of Charles Todd or Dorothy L. Sayers.
