If you like Ellis Peters mysteries (Brother Cadfael) then please
try Serpent's Tale by Ariana Franklin.
This historical mystery is set in Henry II’s England. The female sleuth is a clever Italian coroner named Adelia Aguilar. Her entourage includes a mysterious Arab named Mansur, who poses as the doctor; her baby Allie, and her watch dog, Ward and a feisty nurse maid, named Gyltha. Adelia must pose as Mansur’s assistant for she might be accused of being a witch. Adelia has been summoned to England to solve the case of the poisoning death of Henry II’s mistress, Rosamund. While she is investigating this case many other ghastly murders take place in a nunnery in the
dead of winter. Lots of plot twists, gruesome murders and the threat of civil war and the overthrow of Henry II’s throne make this mystery a real page turner.
