Wednesday's Pick!
I read a wonderful historical novel entitled Red Scarf by Kate Furnivall.
The setting is Russia (pre and post revolutionary); Anna Fedorina bourgeois parents are killed and Anna is taken by her governess to a safer location in Russia. The book fast forwards to a labour camp in Northern Russia where Anna is enslaved there as a camp labourer. Anna saves a fellow inmate (Sophia Morozova ) from death and both become strong friends. In order to survive in the harsh conditions of camp life, Anna tells Sophia about her true love, Vasily and how she longs to escape and find her long last love. Anna becomes ill with tuberculosis and Sophia is able to escape from the camp and find the town where Vasily now lives. Sophia falls in love with the man she thinks is Vasily who has changed his name to Aleksei Fomenko.
What I loved about this love story is the twists and turns in the plot
and the theme of love, loss and conflicting alliances. If you enjoyed the movie Dr. Zhivago you will love this novel.
