My Second Pick of the Week!
As there will be no review posted next week, here's a bonus one for this week. Enjoy!
Happiness originally published as Generica by Canadian author Will Ferguson is a hilarious novel that parodies the self-help book publishing industry. His main character, Edwin de Valu, is the 'self-help' editor in a medium-sized publishing company. He has been asked to find 'the next best thing' in self-help books, as one of the company's regular authors, Mr. Ethics, has been arrested for tax evasion and murder. Edwin finds a very lengthy book to publish that essentially combines all other self-help books into one: diets, relationships, child-rearing, self-esteem, time management, work, war, financial matters, and everything else under the sun. Edwin and the publishing world are shocked when the book single-handedly brings down the tabacco and alcohol industries, Gamblers Anonymous, pharmacies, the fashion world, and every industry that caters to human problems, desires and vices. Is the book's mysterious author a genius, a fraud, a benevolent do-gooder, or just plain evil? Edwin makes it his mission to find out, and to save society as we know it!
